Liposuction (Liposelection) Surgery in Palm Harbor and Tampa Bay

Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Isidoros Moraitis, often recommends Liposuction Surgery, also known as lipoplasty or liposolection, to his patients who wish to improve the contour or shape of select areas of the body. Women commonly have liposuction to remove unwanted fat in areas such as their hips, thighs, abdomen, and arms as well as under their chin for contouring. For men, common sites include under the chin and around the waist or their "love handles." Liposuction is also commonly used in the reduction of enlarged male breasts, a condition known as Gynecomastia.

For patients’ safety and comfort, Dr. Moraitis performs these procedures at one of the local hospitals or accredited surgery centers. Depending on the specific body area(s) being treated, Liposuction typically takes 1-1 ½ hours to perform. Dr. Moraitis tailors the procedure to the needs of the patient to ensure ideal results with faster recover and less discomfort. Most of his liposuction patients typically return to work after only 3-5 days.

Liposuction Techniques:

Power-assisted Liposuction

Power-assisted liposuction is performed by inserting a cannula through a tiny incision in the area of fat being treated. The tube then gently suctions away the unwanted fat. Some bruising and soreness after surgery is common.

Ultrasonic Liposuction

Ultrasonic Liposuction is performed in a similar fashion as Power-assisted but differs in that it removes large amounts of fat by using sound waves to break up the fat being treated. The sound waves liquefy the fat, making it more easily removed.

Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent Liposuction is most commonly used by Dr. Moraitis in combination with Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction (UAL) because it facilitates removal of large pockets of fat while minimizing postoperative bruising and typically shortens recovery time. Tumescent Liposuction is performed by infusing a saline/lidocaine/epinephrine solution into the area(s) being treated. Then, a cannula is inserted into the problem area to remove the fat cells. Patients who have tumescent liposuction typically have very short recovery periods. Many are able to return to work and resume low impact exercise within a week.
