If you feel you have lost the youthful, supple appearance of your breasts, a procedure called mastopexy, or breast lift, can be performed to raise and re-shape your breasts.
Although Breast Lift Surgery can be performed at any age, Palm Harbor Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Isidoros Moraitis recommends waiting until breast development has stopped. Other factors, including pregnancy and breast-feeding may have significant and unpredictable effects on the size and shape of your breasts. Nevertheless, many of Dr. Moraitis’ patients decide to undergo breast lift surgery before having children. They feel that they can address any subsequent changes later. And because the milk ducts and nipples are left intact with Breast Lift or Mastopexy Surgery, it typically does not affect your ability to breast-feed.
Individual factors and personal preferences will determine the specific technique selected to lift your breasts. Breast lift Surgery will raise and firm your breasts by removing excess skin, tightening the surrounding tissue to provide support and a more shapely breast contour, and reduce the size of your areolas. Many of Dr. Moraitis’ Breast Lift patients desire to enlarge their breasts at the same time as they are lifted by performing Breast Augmentation with implants in conjunction with their lift.
Breast Lift Surgery, or Mastopexy, alone or in conjunction with Breast Augmentation, is one of the most commonly performed procedures by Dr. Moraitis. This surgery is outpatient and typically takes 2 to 3 hours, depending on the type and extent of lifting.
There are several variations to the placement of incisions for Breast Lift Surgery. Your examination by Dr. Moraitis to evaluate the size and shape of your breasts, and extent of sagging will define the best techniques for your lift.
A common method of Breast Lift Surgery performed by Dr. Isidoros Moraitis involves two incisions. The first incision is made around the areola. A second incision runs vertically from the bottom edge of the areola to the crease underneath the breast. This method is known as a Circumvertical, Keyhole, or Lollipop Insision Lift.
For some patients who require narrowing of the breasts for a better breast contour, a Full Mastopexy also known as an Anchor or Inverted-T Mastopexy is necessary. With this technique, the incisions are similar to a Lollipop Mastopexy, but require a third incision which runs horizontal beneath the breast and follows the natural curve of the breast crease.
Crescent Mastopexy, also known as Half-Moon Incision, is commonly used in conjunction with a breast augmentation to give the minor lift needed for patients with only slight ptosis of the breast. This incision is used for inserting a breast implant by removing a crescent-shaped piece of tissue above the areola and re-suturing the tissue in a higher position.
Benelli Mastopexy, also known as a Donut or Circumareolar Mastopexy is also commonly performed by Dr. Moraitis. Patients with mild ptosis, or drooping, of the breast may benefit from this specialized technique. A Benelli Breast Lift involves removing a donut shaped piece of skin around the areola, tightening the remaining breast skin and reshaping the breast contour.
A complimentary cosmetic consultation with Dr. Moraitis to discuss your options for Mastopexy Surgery can help you decide if it is right for you.
