With age, your eyelids can stretch and the muscles supporting them can weaken, causing eyelid ptosis (droopy or heavy eyelids). Eyelid Surgery, or Blepharoplasty can correct this tired or aged look by removing excess skin and fat of the upper or lower eyelids and repairing the muscles that support this structure. This surgery can be performed on the upper or lower eyelids or on both (known as a Quad Blepharoplasty).
Blepharoplasty Surgery is commonly performed in conjunction with other procedures, such as a Brow Lift, Facelift or Laser Skin Resurfacing.
Upper Lid Blepharoplasty can be performed at either an outpatient surgery center or hospital under general anesthesia or as an in-office procedure under local anesthesia. The surgery typically takes one to two hours, depending on the extent of your individual procedure.
Lower Lid Blepharoplasty is performed at an outpatient surgery center or hospital under general anesthesia. The surgery typically takes one and a half to three hours depending on your individual needs.
For Upper Eyelid Surgery, the incision is placed along the natural fold of the upper eyelid. Excess skin and fat is then removed and the muscles of the eyelid are lifted or tightened. The incision is then closed with tiny sutures that leave a nearly invisible scar.
For Lower Eyelid Surgery, the incision is placed just below the lashes in the natural crease of your lower eyelid. As with Upper Eyelid Surgery, the excess skin and fat is removed and the incision is then closed with absorbable sutures.
Blepharoplasty Surgery in Palm Harbor may be right for you if you have “droopy” and/or puffy upper eyelids or excess skin and/or dark circles or bags on lower eyelids. Removing this excess skin and fat may improve your vision and make you appear younger and more alert.
As with any major cosmetic facial surgery, there is a risk of bleeding, infection and an adverse reaction to the anesthesia. Other possible risks specific to Blepharoplasty, or Eyelid Lift Surgery in Clearwater and Palm Harbor include: dry, irritated eyes or impaired eyelid function.
A complimentary cosmetic consultation with Dr. Moraitis to discuss your options for Blepharoplasty Surgery can help you decide if it is right for you.
